GYLA SELECT FAQ
What is Select Lacrosse?
Select lacrosse is an exciting program that offers an advanced level of play beyond the classic recreational league. Teams hold tryouts to select the players with skill, athletic ability, work ethic and desire to commit to a higher level of play. Games are typically Friday nights, often "under the lights". In most cases, Select offers an opportunity to compete against towns we don't usually face during the regular season.
How much does it cost to play Select?
There is no cost to tryout for Select. If the player makes the team there will be an additional fee of $180 to play Select. This fee will be used to pay for team registrations, field rental, and fees to the officials.
How many games do Select teams play?
The Select team will play 7 games (separate from classic) during the spring season. Typically teams will host 3 to 4 home games and will be required to travel to 3 to 4 away games. There are playoffs at the end of the season (location and dates TBD). All home games are played at Grafton High School on the Stadium Turf Field.
- Practices will be Monday nights at Grafton High School from 6-7:30pm for both U13 and U15 teams.
- Select Game dates: 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1, 5/18, and 5/15 (playoffs will start the week of May 25th).
What is the commitment to play Select?
Due to the limited number of positions, we ask that players make Select lacrosse their first extra-curricular priority and avoid missing games/practices in order to attend other games/practices/activities. Select players will be expected to attend regularly scheduled games, and one additional practice session on Monday nights in order to receive additional training and preparation.
During tryouts, girls will be evaluated by a number of different coaches and board members. Evaluators do not have any kids trying out for that specific team. Selection decisions will be announced the following week.
